ENGLISH STORYTELLING

A different activity:

Last Friday, December 19th, thanks to the Fathers and Mothers Association (AMPA) of our school, we could enjoy different storytellings divided in two sessions. These were performanced by Papallona Teatre.

The first storytelling was for higher students (from the 3rd to the 6th level). The name of this storytelling was Tales of the World. Mary and Mari, two travelling women, told us tales with a simultaneous translation (English-Valencian). 

The first one was a story from Australia and it was about a monster. Its name was Monster Bunyip and the two explorers told us how people found it and how it was.

The second one was about Dan Auta, the smallest son in an African family. He was a naughty boy who must never cry. When his parents died, his sister had to take care of him. Dan Auta and his sister lived different funny adventures.

The second storytelling was for lower students (Pre-Primary and the 1st and the 2nd level). The name was Sol solet, on ets?

This time was a play with puppets and it was about three chicks. The first one was from Castalla, the second one was from La Vega Baja and the third one was from England; they had different languages to speak between them (Valencian, Spanish and English).

These chicks lived in a farm and they missed the sun, so they started to look for it.

In their adventure, they found different animals and other elements which gave some clues to the chicks to make that mission easier.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL (a good book to read or a good film to watch)

A Christmas Carol is a novella written by Charles Dickens. It was first published on 19 December 1843.

Carol tells the story of a bitter old man named Ebenezer Scrooge.

After receiving the visits by the ghost of his former business partners Jacob and Robert Marley, and the Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present and Yet to Come...

                                                                                    ... Scrooge becames a gentler man.

THANKSGIVING DAY

Una mica de cultura...

El Thanksgiving Day o Dia d'Acció de Gràcies, és una celebració tradicional dels Estats Units i Canadà, pero ens centrarem als E.E.U.U.

Tradicionalment, se celebra el quart dijous del mes de novembre, tot i que originalment es feia l'últim dijous. Generalment, amics i familiars es reuneixen entorn a una taula per compartir un bon àpat i celebrar aquesta festivitat.

Als Estats Units, la tradició moderna del Dia d'Acció de Gràcies té els seus orígens a l'any 1621. Es creu que aquesta festivitat s'origina de la unió dels Colons Anglesos (Pelegrins) i dels Indis Americans.

Els Puritans Anglesos (a qui se'ls va anomenar Separatistes) es van veure obligats a emigrar de la seua terra degut a la persecució religiosa que sofrien. En un primer moment, van intentar buscar refugi a Holanda (per la seua llibertat religiosa i per admitir a gent de distinta religió). Dues dècades més tard, van decidir abandonar Holanda, ja que sofrien problemes econòmics i tenien por de perdre la seua cultura i el seu idioma, a més que els seus fills podien acabar convertint-se en holandesos.

A l'any 1620, van formar una societat amb una empresa mercantil de Londres i van decidir embarcar al Mayflower cap a la colònia de Virginia. Malauradament, les condicions meteorològiques van fer impossible que pogueren arribar a la seua destinació. El lloc on van desembarcar el van batejar com a Plymouth.

Per a celebrar que havien arribat, que havien pogut sobreviure a un hivern molt dur i que tenien una bona collita, la qual els ajudaria a enfrontar el següent, els Pelegrins van organitzar un gran sopar. També van convidar als Indis Natius per agrair la seua ajuda. La primera celebració d'Acció de Gràcies va durar diversos dies. Tant els Indis com els Pelegrins van compartir beguda, menjar i diversió.

Hui en dia, és una Jornada d'Agraïment per les collites i pel que cadascú té a la vida.

HALLOWEEN IN... LA RAMBLA (2014 / 2015)

Durant tota la setmana passada, del 27 al 31 d'octubre, a l'escola, es va treballar Halloween com a part de l'assignatura d'Anglés.

Des de la classe dels tres anys d'Infantil fins a la de sisé de Primària, es van realitzar decorats relacionats amb aquesta tradició d'origen celta, que s'ha estés arreu del món. Carbasses, esquelets, aranyes i màscares, tot penjat als passadissos del col·legi (bé, no tot, les màscares no).

Altres estàncies també es van decorar...

I, per fi, arriba divendres 31 d'octubre, el dia de Halloween. Només aplegar a l'escola, el nostre professor d'Anglés (el Teacher) ens sorprenia amb la seua disfressa de Joker. Ens va donar classe amb aquesta indumentària i aquest maquillatge tan cridaner i esfereidor, no era extrany que ens emportarem algun ensurt quan entrava a l'aula.

A la vesprada, els alumnes i les alumnes de sisé també ens vam disfressar de bruixes, zombies o personatges sinistres per fer la visita als cursos d'Infantil i del Primer Cicle de Primària, i fer-los passar una mica de por.
